South Africa has secured 9 million doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine and 20 million doses from Pfizer-BioNTech which resulted to be effective enough against the dominant variant developed in the country. AstraZeneca has said it expects to have a new version of its Covid-19 vaccine targeting new variants to be ready for use by mid/late 2021.

Highlights:

 
  • February 11: 442,504 total new cases (+0.4%), vs 515,608 the previous day and 424,389 7-day average. Now confirmed 107,668,904 cases worldwide vs 104,698,182 cases last week.
  • 2,365,672 people have died (2.2% of confirmed cases) and 80,251,581 have recovered (74.5%).
  • Europe: 31,809,956 cases; 7-day avg growth of 138,237. USA: 27,390,465 cases; 7-day avg growth of 112,581.
  • Vaccines: around 160 million doses have been administered globally, of which 46 million in the USA and 38 million in Europe. More than 60 vaccines are in clinical evaluation and around 180 vaccines are in preclinical evaluation.
