Israel’s plan to ship surplus vaccines to a group of allied nations was paused following a legal challenge to the deal. German Chancellor Angela Merkel has said the EU must prepare to vaccinate for new variants over the coming years. The US FDA said Johnson & Johnson’s single-shot covid-19 vaccine appeared to be safe and effective in trials.

  • February 25: 442,577 total new cases (+0.4%), vs 448,577 the previous day and 384,732 7-day average. Now confirmed 112,893,080 cases worldwide vs 110,199,956 cases last week. 2,505,769 people have died (2.2% of confirmed cases) and 89,107,391 have recovered (78.9%). 
  • Europe: 33,658,833 cases; 7-day avg growth of 139,158. USA: 28,411,273 cases; 7-day avg growth of 73,074. 
  • Vaccines: around 227 million doses have been administered globally, of which 68.3 million in the USA and 30.3 million in the EU. 73 vaccines are in clinical evaluation and 182 vaccines are in preclinical evaluation.
